If you know me, you know that I LOVE Scooby-Doo! I've been a fan for literally as long as I can remember, and you can read some more about my love for Scooby (and particularly Shaggy) here, when I was featured on ScoobyAddict's Blog!
Anyway, one of the best parts of any Scooby episode or movie is the music. So I thought it would be fun to share my personal ranking of the top ten Scooby-Doo songs! (And yes, I do have a long playlist full of nothing but these and other Scooby songs.)
If you're looking for the perfect road trip song, you've found it! Haha, the gang thought they were done with monsters... That's cute. I really like the concept of a Scooby musical. I just wish Music of the Vampire actually had more songs!
I've yet to meet a person who doesn't like the Hex Girls. They're just that iconic. I would've liked to see Chef Jack get up there and sing with them. But seriously, the Hex Girls are so cool, they deserve a spinoff series! I love whenever they pop up in other Scooby adventures.
If you don't headbang to this, arguably the best Scooby theme song out there, I'm not sure how much fun you and I would have together. This was the soundtrack of my childhood.
For some reason, Zombie Island is the favourite Scooby movie of almost everyone I talk to. Interesting. Maybe it's because of the great music! This one's perfect if you're running away from a crowd of spooky zombies. Or driving to your 9:45 a.m. class.
You might remember this one from the episode Scooby's Night with a Frozen Fright. Or you might even remember it from the OUTSTANDING Cartoon Network special, The Scooby-Doo Project, a fantastic and almost spooky spoof of The Blair Witch Project. Classic Scooby romp (that's a fancy word for chase song).
While not a song made originally for Scooby-Doo, I could NOT leave High 5 off of the list. This song was featured in my favourite episode, Fright House of a Lighthouse, as Shaggy and Scooby run from the Creepy Keeper. We've got ourselves another headbanger, boys.
While this song isn't actually featured in the movie, it's on the Witch's Ghost soundtrack album, and I grew up listening to this one on repeat. It's a song about Velma's crush on Ben Ravencroft, played by Tim Curry, no less. It's a hauntingly beautiful song about longing for someone and not knowing how to tell them. It would've been even cooler if BJ Ward (whom I RECENTLY MET!!!) sang it as Velma herself!
THREE headbangers on this list! Wow! (I clearly do a lot of headbanging.) This song makes you feel like you're a part of Mystery Inc., too, like you're right in there with them, busting these baddies. It's a song for people on a mission. Like Ghostbusters, but it rocks harder.
And now, without further ado, I present to you my absolute favourite Scooby song...
Shaggy and Crystal are THE one true pairing (OTP, if you will). This song/dream sequence is, without a doubt, the sweetest, purest, most heart-on-your-sleeve moment in all of cinema. It's Shaggy's "I've got my life together!" song. It's the hippie version of Somewhere That's Green from Little Shop of Horrors. How Groovy is so beautiful. So hippie. So late '60s. So GROOVY. This movie gives a deeper dimension to Shaggy as a character (that's why it's my favourite Scooby movie!) and Scott Innes gives a STELLAR performance as Shaggy not only in this song, but throughout the entire film. (As if Scott Innes wasn't great enough as Shaggy in the Cartoon Network promos and interstitials from the late '90s and early '00s, his performances in Alien Invaders, Witch's Ghost, and Cyber Chase cemented him forever as my favourite voice for Shaggy.) Anyone with a heart would want Shaggy to have what he wants-- the beautiful hippie girl named Crystal. This song is a real pick-me-up and always gives me a little glimmer of hope, even on the toughest days. Thanks, Shaggy.
I hope you've enjoyed this definitive (ha) list of the best top ten Scooby songs! Do you agree? Are there any songs that I missed? Let me know in the comments! Till next time, stay groovy!
